The Magic Ice Cube

Science Project

Objective: This experiment shows how salt lowers the freezing point of water. The salt causes the ice to melt.  The melting allows the thread to sink into a little pool of water. This water  refreezes, and it traps the thread.

Pour cold ice water into a cup (w/some ice cubes)
Tip: Use a 6 inch thread and a little ice cube!
Put one end of the thread across the top of 1 ice cube

Sprinkle salt over the thread where it touches ice
