As per the NYSED website, the goal has been to make sure that Zachary understands the concepts of and becomes proficient with the skills of mathematics, communicates and reasons mathematically,
and is able to solve problems using appropriate tools and strategies through the integrated study of number sense and operations,
algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability.
Zachary has also used the Math Standards CD rom, Saxon Math program and Thomson
Peterson's PSAT math review study guide this quarter. Grade:

Reading: In addition to reading magazines (National
Geographic,) and "free reading" chapter books, Zachary has been studying Thomson Peterson's PSAT guide (critical reading,
questions, strategies, and exercises) Grade: 4 (E)
Spelling: Zachary has corrected any mispelled
words in his typing and writing assignments, and has participated in spelling games and contests with his siblings. Grade:
3 (G)
Writing, Grammar & Language Arts: This quarter Zachary
studied the Writing Skills portion of the Thompson Peterson's PSAT study guide in order to measure his "ability to identify
errors in usage and structure, to recognize sentences that are correctly written in standard English, and to make choices
about improving the logic, coherence, and organization of faulty paragraphs" Grade: 3 (G)
Health & Safety: Unfortunately
the children had a first-hand lesson in the misery of contracting scabies, which is a parasitic mite that burrows under the
skin. This affliction lasted for over five weeks, during which time the children became personally acquainted with the
healing and antibacterial properties of Melaleuca Tea Tree Oil, the soothing properties of Aveeno Oatmeal Baths,
and how diligent one must be in cleaning and laundering in order to be cured of scabies. The children researched the
life cycle of this mite and watched an educational documentary on this topic. Grade: 4 (E)
History: Aztec Pyramid of Death, frequent
discussion of this year's Democratic and Republican Presidential nominees, super-delegates, delegates, electoral voting,
essential differences between the parties, the GOP, etc. Grade: 3 (G)
Science: Endangered Parks, Science Crafts
and Experiments demonstrating air presssure, displacement of mass, changes in volume, episodes of Naked Science. Grade:
3 (G)
Art: Zachary has begun to learn the basicas of computer
design. Grade: 2 (S)
Music: Zachary researched one of his favorite
singers, Serg Tankian. Grade: 4 (E)
Physical Education: Zachary went sledding, walking
and has been working out regularly on the Total Gym. Grade: 4 (E)
Typing & Computer: Zachary continues to practice
his keyboarding skills. Grade: 3 (G)
